There are a lot of dislikes for this name but I quite like it. It sounds very masculine and down-to-earth but still somehow gentle. There’s a resemblance to the name ‘Herman’ as well. The movie “Mr. Peabody and Sherman” features a young boy character with this name.
In 2018, 59 is the most common age for an American (U.S.) Sherman who is registered male with the Social Security Administration. It is the 1, 208th most common male first name for living U.S. citizens.

Lol, so my first name is Sherman. My grandfather's name was Sherman, so naturally I'm the Third. He was named after a Baptist Minister from the early 1900's. Unfortunately my name has never been well represented in movies, history, or literature. However, unlike slight night shiver above, I enjoy my name and don't think it's that bad. How many Shermans have you met in your life?
I absolutely loathe this name with a flaming passion. It sounds like the surname of obnoxious jerks, and it sounds like the first name of obnoxious jerks. The name is flat out ugly, and it's so surname-y that I would call it pretentious if it didn't make the think of lower middle class people. This is also the first name of author Sherman Alexie, and guess what, he's an obnoxious jerk! He has really ruined this ugly name even more.
A famous bearer of this name is American actor Sherman Hemsley (born February 1, 1938). He's most famous for his role as George Jefferson on the TV shows "All in the Family" and "The Jeffersons" and as Deacon Ernest Frye on "Amen".
