It reminds me of Sharia law... so that messes this name up for me. And it kind of does sound feminine, like Sharon and Mariah.

I am an Arab and I have never heard of Shariah as a name except on this site. We don't name our kids after our legal system. It would look really silly if someone used it. And it also brings to mind Islamic extremists who want Shariah law as the official law for the non-Muslim countries that they live in.
Actually Shariah doesn't literally mean "divine law" (though that is the modern meaning) - it derives from an archaic Arabic word meaning "pathway to be followed" or "way to the water". [noted -ed]

I don't like this name. It sounds arrogant and pretentious due to the meaning. I feel that using it would reinforce the stereotype that Muslims are cruel.
This sounds like the sort of name a religious lunatic and zealot would name his son.

What's up with that disgusting Islamophobic comment? Shariah sounds silly as a name, though - I've never heard it as a name except on this site. And I know plenty of Muslims.
