Meaning & History

A Middle Persian title meaning "the Boar of the Empire", from Middle Persian shahr "country" and war膩z "boar", referencing the Zoroastrian deity Izad Vahram. This was the title of a shah (king) of the Sasanian Empire for approximately 40 days after being killed by Iranian nobles.
