Meaning & History
Comes from the American surname Sestina. A sestina is “a type of poem that originated in France in the 12th century. The poem is credited to Arnaut Daniel, a Provençal troubadour who lived from 1180-1200. The sestina is a lyrical form of six six-line stanzas that uses an elaborate scheme of word repetition to create a sort of rhyme.” Also comes from the Latin word sex for the number six.
