Meaning & History
Meaning unknown. Georgian sources state that the name is of Kartvelian origin. However, there might possibly be a chance that the name was originally a short form of Ioseb (compare its diminutive Soso), in which case it is technically of Hebrew origin. A derivation from Aleksandre might also be possible, as is indicated in the case of the Georgian actor Aleksandre "Sesika" Kuprashvili (1904-1979).
