Meaning & History
From Egyptian zkr, possibly derived from skr "to clean the mouth", in reference to a funerary ritual, or from sy-k-ri "hurry to me", a cry from Osiris to Isis. Another suggested meaning is "the adorned one". This was the name of an Egyptian underworld deity with the head of a hawk or falcon, also associated with agriculture and goldsmithing.
