This name is definitely not pronounced shen-ayn. It's SHAN-awn. More or less the same as Shannon.

Pronounced shen-ayn in correct Irish, though I suppose it could be Americanised as shayn-an.

This name seems to me as though it could be popular -- it's Celtic, which is big, and it has a nickname right in the first syllable. I wonder why it isn't used more often?
