Scholastica Kimaryo is a Tanzanian life coach and women's rights advocate, who formerly worked as an international civil servant and journalist for three decades.
It's a scholarly sounding name, but poor Scholastica will face bullying in elementary school (especially during the book fair) and learn to resent her name.
Despite the similarities to the name of the book publishing company, I quite enjoy this name. It gives off a vibe of a very knowledgeable and kind person. Very fancy too, which I enjoy as well.
Continuing the tradition of commenting on the name day! I love this name, but it wouldn't be my top choice for anyone, especially because of the association with Scholastic Books;
It reminds me of the book company Scholastic. The sound is pretty but way too long and complex for a person to wear. I can appreciate the sound though.
So we band together on another March 8th XDNice name in theory, however the publishing company does come to mind. It might be a heavy name for a child to bear, especially with everyone else having names like Emma or Ava.
I’m in the odd group that actually likes this name. I don’t think it’s a mouthful, and you are all saying that you dislike it because it sounds like “scholar”, but I don’t mind that association, I in fact love it because it means the name is smart, so to say. I think it’s very pretty, mature, heavenly, and the image I get from this name is a woman who can get what she wants, and knows what she wants.
Ha, back again! Time passes by so quickly, I still remember making my last comment. I certainly don't think it's ugly, still. I can't see how it would be, other than the book organization and the goddess, of course. Also the length.
Another March 8th comment, I find the name nice, actually. A nickname could be Skully, I guess. It would be interesting for a character, but not as much on a person.
Modern usage of the name includes some colleges named after St. Scholastica. Such as College of St. Scholastica in Duluth, Minnesota. There were two all-girl private academies called St. Scholastica Academy in Illinois and Louisiana, the former closed its doors in 2012. There's a few of these in the Philippines as well.
Continuing the tradition of comments on this name on March 8, I would say in the 21st century this would stand out... a little too much. Although maybe not that bad of a name, it is simply over the top.
I think this is a beautiful name. I took it as my Confirmation name after St. Scholastica. I know it can sound smart or snobby based on today's culture but, it is very sophisticated, a quite lovely actually. Admittedly a bit of a mouthful but, nicknames like Sola or Lassie can shorten it.

In theory, this should be a nice name: it flows well, it has an interesting meaning, and it has many potential nicknames. However, because of the name's resemblance to the word scholar, and because of the publishing company, this name seems somewhat tacky and forced to me.
I wouldn't name a kid this. I'm sure that they'd be teased, and people may not take them seriously. It really does sound like the publishing company. When I first saw it, I didn't even think it was a real name.
