I don't really understand the problem people have with this name, I get naming your child after a strain of cannabis probably seems a bit odd to most people. In the festival scene it's pretty normal for parents to come up with less orthodox names. I know a good handful of people with similar names and nobody in school, work ect ever really makes the connection. It doesn't affect them or anything, people just hear it as a pretty name.
Please don't name your daughter after your drug of choice.
In Indonesia, this name is often paired as a middle name with Oryza, in reference to the Asian rice #Oryza sativa# (see https://www.linkedin.com/pub/dir?firstName=&lastName=Sativa&trk=people-guest_people-search-bar_search-submit).
I'm not sure this is an appropriate name.
I also know a person with this name. I was introduced to her and was told “her name means weed.” And she’s a nice person, but this name is not at all usable.
An unfortunate child I come in contact with occasionally has been afflicted with this name. All I can think of is how much her parent(s) must idolize weed and how disadvantaged she will be growing up. Her parent(s) should be fined and the money saved for the inevitable legal name change.
