My name is Samuel, but most of my family call me Sammy. Until recently I was indifferent to it, but now I actually love it! It is both a fun and friendly nickname. I am now considering going by Sammy.
Samuel "Sammy" Lee (1920 – 2016) was an American physician and diver. He was the first Asian American man to win an Olympic gold medal for the United States (the second Asian American to win a gold medal overall) and the first man to win back-to-back gold medals in Olympic platform diving.
Cool people are called Sammy. Case closed. But in all seriousness, if you're going to say that it sounds childish, you could literally say the same for any other name that ends in -y or -ie. I think Teddy, for example, is, by far, the worst, in this category.I also noticed that in another comment someone said that you get bullied for being called Sammy...? My real name is Samuel, but I go by Sammy, and quite frankly, people took the mick out of me for being called Samuel all the time, as opposed to being called Sammy. Which, personally, I will never change. If you're called Sammy, and you aren't childish, it won't make a difference. If you are called Sammy, and you ARE childish, it will be 100 times worse.

I've known both female and male Sammys. I think it works for both but I like it on a male a little better.

More girly than masculine. I don’t like it anyway.

My name is Sammy and as a person who has this name I like the name Sam, it sounds sweet and innocent and Samantha, it's a very beautiful name and Samuel just sounds nice but for some reason I just don't like the name Sammy. Sammy sounds immature and annoying to me for some reason.
Samuel Roy "Sammy" Hagar (born 13 October 1947) is an American hard rock musician, known for his work with the band Van Halen from 1985 to 1996 and his solo career, which included the enduring hit "I Can't Drive 55" (1984). Hagar also founded the nightclub chain Cabo Wabo in 1990.
I think naming a child Sammy is cruel. The name is short for Samantha, so call them Sam- Sammy is a name a young child can be teased with like my friend's daughter did. I don't favour the name Sammy.

Sammy is too babyish for a grown-up, I think it will be a good name for pet though like a dog.

I am not a big fan of the names Samuel or Sam, yet I absolutely love the name Sammy for a boy. I think it can work for both little boys and adults, as long as they aren't too serious!
