With 1 042 169 bearers, Sachiko is the 3rd most common feminine given name in Japan (2014 Data).Source: https://forebears.io/forenames/sachiko
It reminds me of an old female singer on a holiday season TV show.
Sachiko was one of the most popular Japanese girls names of all times. It entered the top 10 in 1921 and would stay there (with some breaks, falling out a few times in between) for over 50 years, until 1977.It peaked at #1 in 1924, 1925 and 1949 and was at #2 from 1929-1939 and 1945-1948.The most common spelling is 幸子 (happiness + child).
Sachiko is also the name of a character from a series called Corpse Party. Her full name is Sachiko Shinozaki. :3.
Sachiko, Princess Hisa was the second daughter and child of Emperor Shōwa and his wife, Empress Kōjun.
Sachiko Sugiyama is a volleyball player from Japan, who competed at the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens, Greece, wearing the number #12 jersey. There she ended up in fifth place with the Japan women's national team. Sugiyama played as a middle-blocker.
I've always thought it was pronounced sa-shee-ko. I like the SH sound.
I love the meaning of this name. It makes me think of a child laughing. :)
In the manga With the Light (which is about a modern Japanese family coping through the challenges of raising an autistic child), the mother's name is Sachiko. Since the character of Sachiko in that manga is an admirable one, I fell in love with the name ever since reading it.
The most common kanji for "sachi" is the one for "happiness/good luck", but there's another kanji for "sachi" that is a combination of "god/God" and "sheep" (God's sheep?). The kanji for "sachi" ("God's sheep") can also be pronounced "yoshi" or "sho".You can also separate the "sa" and the "chi" and use different characters...
"sa":
-a kind of fabric
-save/rescue
-fast
-small
-joyous (celebration)"chi"
-wise/wisdom (there are a couple possible kanji for this)
-thousandNote: The kanji for "happiness/good luck" can also be pronounced "yuki" or "miyuki" and is quite common, so you need to check which reading people use for it. (I had a Yukie and a Sachie in the same class once both using the same kanji for their names).Possibilities with "sachi":
Sachi
Sachie
Sachiko
Sachiyo
