My name is Sama (of Iraqi origin) and I adore my name but people have trouble pronouncing it a lot of the time. I live in the US, of course, so most people either pronounce it as "saw-muh" or "sah-muh". Rarely is it pronounced correctly (suh-muh/summer without the -er). I was also teased with "salmon" in elementary school but it wasn't overdone if you're worried about that. I would also like to add to the meaning; according to my mother, 'sky' is a more literal meaning for it. It means something like "superior" or "higher up" (as in someone respectable). Quite similar to its usage as a Japanese honorific in that aspect.
