A really, really nice name. It sounds strong, but also refined and traditional. I also really love the meaning, and it’s great how you can nickname it to Ryuu. One of my favourite names ever.

Ryūnosuke Kusaka was an admiral in the Imperial Japanese Navy during World War II who served as Chief of Staff of the Combined Fleet. Fellow Admiral Jinichi Kusaka was his cousin. Kusaka was also the 4th Headmaster of Ittō Shōden Mutō-ryū Kenjutsu, a famous school of swordsmanship founded by Yamaoka Tesshū.
Let me clarify on how Ryūnosuke is pronounced.'ryoo': I've often hear this as 'ryuu:' (using BtN's pronunciation guide) and since the name is written Ryuunosuke/Ryūnosuke, the vowel is long, hence the ':' in 'ryuu:'. 'soo-ke': Whenever I hear 'suke' on a name or a word, the u is silent, so it's pronounced 'ske'So, in general, Ryūnosuke is pronounced 'ryuu:-no-ske'. [noted -ed]
