Hi my name is Roxanne and I love my name. Not many people call me Roxanne but they call me Rox, Roxy, or they sing the song Roxanne which sucks!
Roxanne McDonald is an Indigenous Australian actress. McDonald is an Aboriginal Australian woman, descended from the Mandandanji (Roma area), Wangan (Clermont area) and Darumbal (Rockhampton) peoples of Central Queensland.
Hi, My name is Roxanne. I never liked it when I was young but as I’ve got a bit older I don’t really think about it. I get called Roxanne, Rox, Roxy & one my immediate family called me (it’s odd - is Sann ….). Said in front of people they would say “ why are they calling you Sam ……. & the Police song is just something I have gotten used to over the years!
I'm a Roxanne born in 1967. I had no problem with my name until that damn song came out in 1979(?). People have been screaming it at me for 40 years, thinking it's funny. It isn't. It's about a whore.

This is a really cool name! It sounds like a rockstar name. My friend is named Roxanne and she is amazing! She gets called Roxy as a nickname.
My name is Roxanne! I’ve always loved it. It’s unique where I live and I’ve only met around 3 people with this name since I was a child. I do get sung to more than most people, I’m sure, but it’s a unique experience that I’m willing to look past hahah.

Just love this name! So good looking and sounds strong! Roxanne! Just beautiful!
Roxanne, Roxanne, all she wanna do is party all night. Goshdang, Roxanne, never gonna love me but it's alright. She think I'm an a*******, she think I'm a player. She keep runnin' back doe only 'cause I pay up. Roxanne, Roxanne, all she wanna do is party all night. That's a nice song, and this name is also nice. I don't think of s**** who want to party every day when I hear the name Roxanne. I also have heard the other songs some of the Roxanne's mentioned.
I'm Roxanne and I HATE my name! I get that song all. The. Time... Nearly 40 years after the song came out and I'm still, STILL hearing it and people STILL think it's funny. I was tortured by it all my life... Thing is my husband is called Christian - so we are the Cyranno de Bergerac romantic tragic couple - the French equivalent of Romeo and Juliet - but I still hate it. Thank you Gordon for writing that stupid song!
My name is Roxane (spelt with one n) I think this is the French spelling although I am English. I call myself Roxy. It's not a bad name but decided to give my own children classic names which are fairly common.

My name is Roxanne and I honestly love the name. People do sing the police song to me all the time but I don't mind it, cause I like that song too. I think it's a really pretty name and I don't have to deal with people forgetting my name a lot. I also can never find anything with my name on it in stores, which I really like. It makes it where if anyone wants to get me something with my name on it it has to be personally made. I've always liked to stand out and the name has always made me feel unique. However I understand that it is a strong name and isn't for everyone. A lot of people take it hard when they are compared to a song about a prostitute. As for me, I've always loved my name.
I was born in 1967. My father named me Roxanne. He admired a classmate of his whose name was Roxanne. He thought she was very classy. I love the name. It never fails that someone new I might meet starts to sing 'Roxanne', the song by The Police. I never take it personally, though. :-) My middle name is Marie, named after my grandmother on my mom's side. People mostly call me Roxanne, Rox, or Roxie.
I was born in 1961 and my dad chose this name for me. I have always loved it and love it to this day. It is unique, yet recognizable at the same time. It totally fits me, sans the Police song; however, it never bothers me when someone sings it as if I have never heard the correlation. It's usually followed by, "I've bet you've heard that a million times." Yes, just about, but I smile just the same allowing the singer a little joy in believing that no one has ever sung it better. I could not have picked a better name for myself than this one. Thanks Dad!
This is my name. I don't hate it, but I don't like it very much either. I don't feel like it suits me, since I'm an introverted, nerdy type and not at all the sexy/stripper type the name brings to mind for a lot of people according to this site. The worst thing about it is that awful Police song. Every time someone feels the need to sing it at me as if I've never heard it before, I am overcome with the urge to scream, cover my ears, and run away as fast as I can. I wish all of the copies of it would be deleted/destroyed. For that reason alone, I would never recommend that anyone name their daughter Roxanne. Otherwise, it's an okay name. If you do name your child Roxanne, just know that they'll never find anything personalized with their name on it (which can be endlessly frustrating as a child, believe me), 95% of people will spell it wrong, and strangers and friends alike will be determined to call them Roxy - or even worse, Rocky. *Shudders* It's kind of a cool sounding name, but I'd much rather be an Ashley or a Brittany. I give my name a 4 out of 10.

The name Roxanne was given to 178 girls born in the US in 2015.
I named my daughter Roxanne, always loved the name and thought it was so pretty, wanted to call her Roxy, but my dad started calling her Rocky, which was okay and different. But I don't care what any one says. It's very beautiful, and you don't hear of it much.
I kind of like this name. It is just so upperclass and elegant. The "Rox" is cool and unique, and it ends with "anne" which is plain. I think the name is decent. Roxy is OK, but a bit tacky.
Roxanne is the name of a character from the Pokemon series. She is the Gym Leader of Rustboro City; she appears in Pokemon Ruby, Sapphire, Emerald, Omega Ruby, and Alpha Sapphire. Her name is a play on the word 'rock', as she specializes in rock-type Pokemon.

This is one of the very few names that I don't like at all. It sounds kind of gothic to me (I don't know why). Strange, because I usually like names that end in Anne.

My name is Roxanne, people sing me the Sting song ALL the time... Acting like I never heard it before! I was born a few years before the song, so come on! It was hard growing up because I never could find anything with my name on it, but overall I like it, only met a few with the name.
Brilliant name. Shame it's associated with the song... I love the song, but you don't really want to call a child this and then have them associated with it.
I realize this name has a history dating back to antiquity, but I still can't hear it without thinking of the Police song and "you don't have to put on the red light."

During the mid-1980s, the world of hip-hop was embroiled in The Roxanne Wars, where more than 100 "answer records" were inspired by UTFC's "Roxanne, Roxanne". The first answer record was "Roxanne's Revenge", by teenager Roxanne Shante. (She used her middle name; her first name was Lolita). So there are more than one hundred songs about Roxanne from the 1980s, not just the one by The Police (released in 1979, charted in the 1980s).
The prostitute in the song "Roxanne" by The Police gained her name because the hotel the band was staying in at the time had a poster for "Cyrano de Bergerac" in the foyer, whose main female character and love interest is named Roxane.
This name doesn't sound very professional, and the first syllable has a heavy sound. It doesn't sound very pretty. Shortening it to 'Roxy' doesn't help because it still has that heavy, harsh sound.
Roxanne, you don't have to put on the red light. That song came out waaay before I was born and I still hear it. All. The. Time. My point is, that song is like a cockroach and just will not die. The name Roxanne will forever be associated with prostitutes. The name overall isn't a bad one, but I feel like that song has ruined it.
My name is Roxanne Carol. I don't particularly care for it due to the Police song, and because everyone thinks I must be a blonde. (I am a dark haired introvert). It is better than my father's choice, Dagmar. My best friend growing up named his younger daughter after me, Roksana. She goes by Roxy. I am usually called Rox or Roxy. My niece could not say Roxanne, so she always called me Rockee.
Ew. I always think of a song (either from the 1970s or 1980s, I'm not sure which) that talks about a Roxanne working in a redlight district. I guess I can credit that awful song for something, stigmatizing the name Roxanne.
It's not an ugly name, it's a bit unusual, but it doesn't really roll off my tongue, either. It's a bit rough. Whenever I hear this name I get this image in my head of this fair skinned, reddish/brown haired girl with big hazel eyes and always wears dark, fancy clothes. She's quiet, solitary and is very intelligent. The alternate to this is someone who's hyper and plays in a rock band. The x kind of gives the name an edge and attitude. But this is definitely not on my list of names for future kids.
That annoying Sting song has really ruined this name, but chances are a girl named Roxanne in 2008 won't have people her age around her who have ever heard the horrible song. For some crazy reason, however, this song is still widely known despite being older than me (I was born in 1985). The name sounds trashy to me, and I can't say with absolute certainty that the song doesn't have anything to do with it. Still, the name just doesn't sound very sophisticated, and the sound is quite harsh somehow. It makes me think of some back up dancer from the 90s with dark, long curls, too much eye make-up, trashy clothes like fish net stockings, orange boots, and a top that reveals the stomach.
My name is Roxanne. I am Afrikaans (a language similar to Dutch or German), so my family pronounces it Rok-ZAAHN (rhymes with Cannes, so a long aaaah). I hate the name Roxy, but I have been called Rocky before which I like.Downside of this name - In the US it seems to have acquired a sleazy/80s kind of association. You also have to live with the fact that people may call you Roxy.Upside of this name - Reminds me of the film 'Roxanne' starring the beautiful Darryl Hannah. The 'Anne' part is classic. It is also not very common, so despite the Police song it is not likely to ever become the next Amber/Jade/Crystal.
I love my name! I've never ever wanted it different! I think it's gorgeous & uncommon, but not unheard of. I'm always said to be lucky to be blessed with a name that almost everybody likes. The Only Downside: In Italy, people usually call me Roseanne, I'm not too fond of that.
This name is forever ruined for me because of the Police song by the same name about a prostitute. If you name your kid this, you'd better hope they never run into any Sting fanatics.
I really like the name Roxanne, it's my name and I spell it Roxxanne, the way my parents meant for it to be it should have been spelled RoxxAnne. I think the name is very strong, and I like the way that it is not a common name. I have never met another Roxanne.
Roxanne is a beautiful elegant name. I also like Roxanna.

I do really like this name (not just because it's my own). In the strange ways of propheticness, Sting and the Police was on Saturday Night Live the night I was born.
The more I hear of the name Roxanne the more I like it. It is unique and pretty.

This is my name ^__^! I knew I meant 'dawn' but not all the info it says here. Lucky too find this huh? My middle name, Maria, goes well with this. Roxanne Maria _________.
This is my name and I cannot understand why people always pronounce it "Roxana". There is no "a" at the end! And while I lived in Italy I was called "Rosanna", or Roseanne. The horrible twistings of my beloved name by foreigners and idiots...

My best friend's middle name is Roxanne and it sounds really good with her first name, Paige. Her mom named her that middle name because it is a family tradition kinda. Roxanne is a good additon to the plain name Anne. I just love it!
Totally love this name! Roxanne is a female character on "Cyrano de Bergerac" and the name of one of my favourite songs from "Moulin Rouge" - "El Tango de Roxanne".
