Meaning & History
Georgian sources state that this name is of Persian origin and means "straight, righteous" as well as "wise, sage" and "truthful". This should connect the name to Middle Persian rāst meaning "true, straight, direct" and rastīh meaning "truth", which have evolved into modern Persian as respectively راست (râst) and راستی (râsti). There might also be a connection with Middle Persian drust meaning "right, well, healthy" and drustīh meaning "righteous, health", of which the modern Persian equivalents are درست (dorost) and درستی (dorosti) respectively. In Georgian literature, Rostevan is the name of a king of Arabia in the 12th-century epic poem The Knight in the Panther's Skin written by the Georgian poet Shota Rustaveli. He is the father of the princess Tinatin, who inherits the throne from him because he has no sons and she is his only child.
