Meaning & History
The first element of this name is derived from the Lithuanian verb rimti meaning "to calm down, to quieten". It is related to the Lithuanian adjective ramus meaning "calm, quiet, peaceful" (see Ramūnas) and the Lithuanian noun ramybė meaning "tranquility, peace, quiet". The second element of this name is derived from Baltic vyd meaning "to see" (see Vytautas). Also compare other names that end in -vydas, such as Alvydas and Tautvydas. As such, the meaning of this name is basically "to see calmly", probably as in looking at things (be they material or immaterial) with a clear head.
