恋 does not simply mean “love,” but ROMANTIC love, as in, sexual or infatuation-type love. It does not refer to love in the general sense. Please do not name your child this thinking it means “love” as we use it ever-so-broadly in English! [noted -ed]
But yes it also means lotus (蓮) and other meanings, depending on the kanji. Another spelling alternative for English would be Wren, as in the bird.
