Meaning & History
The meaning of the first element of this compound name is uncertain. It might possibly have been derived from Middle Persian rōz meaning "day". As for the second element, that is derived from Middle Persian dēn meaning "religion". If we interpret the first element more figuratively and take "day" to be a reference to "light", then one could say that the name as a whole roughly means "religion is light".In Georgia, usage of this name probably started (at first) in honour of Razhden the Protomartyr, a 5th-century saint of Persian ancestry.
