Meaning & History
Feminine form of the Greek masculine name Πυθοδωρίδης (Pythodorides), which means "son of Pythodoros", as it consists of the name Pythodoros combined with the patronymic suffix ἴδης (ides). This name was borne by Pythodorida of Pontus (died in 38 AD), a Roman client ruler who was a granddaughter of the Roman politician and general Mark Antony. Her father's name was Pythodoros, so her name literally refers to the fact that she was his daughter. The name was later borne by her granddaughter, Pythodorida II (also known as Pythodoris), a Roman client ruler of Thrace.
