Meaning & History
Derived from Greek πράγματος (pragmatos) "to gather evidence", which itself is ultimately derived from Greek πρᾶγμα (pragma) "deed, action". Also compare Greek πράσσειν (prassein) meaning "to do". This was the name of a Frankish saint, as well as the name of Roman orator from the 5th century AD.
