Derived from Greek πολύς (polys) meaning "much" and a second element possibly related to κέκασμαι (kekasmai) meaning "to surpass, to excel, to shine" (pluperfect κέκαστο (kekasto)). This name belonged to several characters in Greek mythology, including the youngest daughter of Nestor in Homer's Odyssey.
