Latinized form of Polyainos. A notable bearer of this name was the Greek mathematician Polyaenus of Lampsacus (3rd century BC), who was a friend of the famous Greek philosopher Epicurus. Polyaenus was also the name of a Macedonian author and rhetorician from the 2nd century AD.
