Miranda Kerr named her fourth child (feb 2024) Pierre. It seems quite different from the other names she gave her children. I am quite neutral on the name. Perhaps her use will boost the name.

Pierre Magnol (1638 – 1715) was a French botanist. He was born in the city of Montpellier, where he lived and worked for most of his life. He became Professor of Botany and Director of the Royal Botanic Garden of Montpellier and held a seat in the Académie Royale des Sciences de Paris for a short while. He was one of the innovators who devised the botanical scheme of classification. He was the first to publish the concept of plant families as they are understood today, a natural classification of groups of plants that have features in common. In 1703 Charles Plumier (1646–1704) named a flowering tree from the island of Martinique Magnolia, after Magnol. The name was later adopted by William Sherard, when he did the nomenclatural parts of Hortus Elthamensis by Johann Jacob Dillenius, and The Natural History of Carolina by Mark Catesby, to denote a flowering tree now known as Magnolia virginiana, taking it for the same species as that described by Plumier. Linnaeus took over this name in the first edition of Species plantarum, including references to both Plumier's and Sherard's names. In this way, Magnolia became the generally recognized name of a large genus of ornamental flowering trees.

Pierre Brassau was a chimpanzee who painted a series of paintings that his owner, Swedish journalist Dacke Ackelsson, claimed were painted by a French artist named Pierre Brassau in a 1964 hoax. The purpose of the hoax was to see if art critics could distinguish paintings by humans from ones by primates.
In French, "Pierre" translates to stone or rock, but this likely has nothing to do with the name despite its French origin.

Of course the meaning "stone, rock" has something to do with the name - it's literally the translation of the name Peter/Petros which is Greek for rock, stone.
Another name I love. The history is very cool and it sounds like the name of a very handsome man.

To who thinks it's horrible: sure, Pierre may be a cliche, but it's French for Peter which is rock in Greek. And in the Bible, Jesus said to Peter, "You are my rock, and upon this rock I will build my church". So overall, it has a good meaning.

Despite Pierre Perrier, and that it was my great-grandfather's name (I'm part-French), I don't like this name that much. It's okay, but I think there are other French names which are more interesting.
Pierre is a very traditional French name that has been consistently popular for centuries. Its most popular year as of 1900 was 1930, when it was given to over 16,000 baby boys. I think it's quite cute, personally :)
