I prefer the spelling Piers, which has a lot more history and meaning than Pierce, even if it is pronounced the same.
African American names have unique meaning because of our unique history so often when we name our children, the names mean what we deem if there is not a suitable or relevant definition: Pierce means: Strong and able to go through everything with ease.
First person that comes to mind is Jeremy's friend with all the body piercings and such in the comic strip "Zits." On a personal note, I think this name should belong to a guy with an energetic, almost spastic personality who is friendly and somewhat impulsive.
