Meaning & History
The first element of this name is derived from the Greek noun φρύνη (phryne) meaning "toad" (see Phryne). Also compare Greek φρῦνος (phrynos), which can mean "toad" as well as "brown". The second element is possibly derived from the Greek noun ήχος (ichos) meaning "sound, noise, tone", which is ultimately derived from the Greek noun ἦχος (echos) meaning "sound, noise" as well as "echo". As a result, the meaning of the name as a whole would roughly be "the sound of a toad" or "making noise like a toad".
