Meaning & History
Means "son of Pheidippos" in Greek, derived from the name Pheidippos combined with the patronymic suffix ἴδης (ides). This was the name of an Athenian herald from the 5th century BC, who ran from Marathon to Athens to deliver news of the victory of the Battle of Marathon. He died shortly after successfully delivering the news. The medical condition of Phidippides cardiomyopathy was named after him.
