Derived from Greek φαίδιμος (phaidimos) meaning "shining, radiant, glistening". This was the name of several characters in Greek legend, including a king of Sidon mentioned in the 'Odyssey'. It was also borne by a 2nd-century BC Greek poet from Bisanthe (eastern Thrace).
