This is such an ugly name! There's a district named Pasila in Helsinki, and even the ugly Swedish name for it, Böle, sounds much more pleasant!

I came across an entry for "Pasi" on a Nordic Names website (http://www.nordicnames.de/ -- the site has pages in English too). It lists the name as a Finnish pet form of "Paul", not "Basil" (http://www.nordicnames.de/pojk_p/Paul.html).
Of course, I haven't done the reasearch myself, but it's worth looking into.
