I saw the movie "The Breadwinner" where Parvana is the main character. It was a beautiful film.About the name I love the 'butterfly' meaning and the Par- part is very poetic as also Parvin (Pleiades) and Pari / Parisa (fairy, fairy-like) have this sound in it.
A famous bearer of the name Parvana is the main character in the book "The Breadwinner". It's about a young girl growing up in Kabul, Afghanistan.

As an Iranian with MANY relatives who live in Iran, I can say the original pronunciation should be par-von-eh. Parvana seems like a watered-down and easier-to-pronounce version to me.

In Farsi, Parvaneh is butterfly not Parvana. Parvana has been altered from its original form so non-ethnic people can use it.

Speaking Farsi in Afghan dialect, "Parvana" is butterfly, not "Parvaneh".
