Hellenized form of an Indian name, of which both the original form and the meaning are unknown.In Greek mythology, this is the name of a chieftain of the Indian tribe of the Zabioi (known in Latin as the Zabii). They armed themselves against the Greek god Dionysos in the Indian War, even though Palthanor was privately in agreement with Dionysos. After the war, he followed Dionysos to Thebes and settled there.
