It does feel very ‘cowboy’ and wild west, so I can see why people shy away from it, but I have too many good associations with it to dislike haha. If you want that vintage feel with historical weight, then I think this is a lovely pick.
Orville H. Gibson (1856 – 1918) was a luthier who founded the Gibson Guitar Company in Kalamazoo, Michigan in 1902, makers of guitars, mandolins and other instruments.
Okay, I'm just going to weigh in here. My son is named Orville and while not my first choice of name, I kinda like it. I'm English and I've definitely never met anyone with this name over here, but my husband is American, from the South, and it was a name he recognised. I refused to call our kid after any member of our families, which is kind of a Southern thing I wasn't comfortable with, but I was fairly happy to go along with this name because it's got history for him. YES I think it's a little old-fashioned but so what, it makes my son unique while not being weird enough for people to be mean about it.
In 2018, 81 is the most common age for an American (U.S.) Orville who is registered male with the Social Security Administration. It is the 1, 649th most common male first name for living U.S. citizens.
