Meaning & History
The Basque Orreaga, composed of orre (juniper) and aga (a common Basque ending that indicates abundance), means "place full of junipers, juniper grove". The name also references the town of Orreaga (Roncesvalles in Spanish) in which in Charlemagne's rear guard was destroyed by Basque tribes in the year 778. There is a virgin named Saint Mary of Orreaga.
