Alright. My name is Oona. I like this spelling because Una, even though this name is pretty, sounds like Uno, and so it looks Italian and Hispanic-ish to me, but it still is a good name. Oonagh looks more Irish and/or more Celtic. I like this spelling too, but the gh is like a surprise you weren’t expecting but at the same time you were.My mom chose this name because of a patient she once had. Also she’s a little Irish, so the name makes sense.
I don't personally know anyone named Oona but it's a very nice name. Some good nicknames are Oon, Oono, Moon, and O. I guarantee the person you're using these nicknames on will be so thankful. OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOna.
Oona is the former Queen of Dreamland, and main character Bean's former stepmother, on the Netflix show "Disenchantment" (created by Matt Groening). She seems to be of an aquatic species separate from regular humans, and there are references to her laying eggs and sleeping while suspended from the ceiling. Oona eventually becomes a pirate queen.
I once knew an Oona, years ago. We're American, but she had an uncommon Irish surname and her roots were very (East Coast) Irish, so her name didn't look odd on paper. And to be honest, Oona wasn't odd to say in real life, despite it being so unlike the usual names in this country. It slowly grew on me.Only this spelling, though. Una looks too much like Spanish "uno," and Oonagh just has too many letters.

In the book "Smack" by Melvin Burgess, about some teenage runaways who become addicted to heroin, the two main characters, Gemma and Tar (real name David) have a daughter named Oona. I love this name, it is so much prettier spelled Oona than Una! It's also close to one of my favorite names, Luna. Oona really is a beautiful name.
For some reason I don't like this. I like Una and Oonagh, but Oona looks either like an imcomplete Oonagh or a 'creative'ly spelled Una.

Oona is also the name of a fairy in the 1985 movie "Legend", starring Tom Cruise and Tim Curry. I know someone who named her daughter Oonaleyna (which she made up by combining Oona and Lena). I think Oona is a very sweet, otherworldly name. I might even name my daughter this.
