I love the association and the meaning is great, but it feels a little clumsy to me. It would be hard to spell and it's a bit too non-western for a child. Maybe as a middle name? I still wouldn't use it. Alas, it could be a great name in another part of the world.
Onesiphorus is the name of Obed Marsh's son by his first wife in the H. P. Lovecraft story "The Shadow over Innsmouth". He had a son, Barnabas, with one of the Deep Ones, creatures worshiped by his father's group, the Esoteric Order of Dagon.

Sounds like a name for a dinosaur species or a chemical.
Onesiphorus looks like a name of some dinosaur species and it sounds like a disease. Those alone should state the obvious as to why this name would be a terrible choice. Not only that but just imagine a small child having to learn to spell this and the fact that his name would get butchered, both by spelling and pronunciation. The name is just hideous and would be nothing but a burden to anyone named it.

My 2nd great grandfather was Onésiphore (French form of Onesiphorus); with the accent over the e it implies (to me) that it is pronounced "Onay-C-for". My 2nd great grandfather's nickname was Siphore.
