Meaning & History
Latinized form of the name Ὄλορος (Oloros), of which the meaning and origin is uncertain. It might be a hellenized Thracian name, since the name was borne by a Thracian king from the 5th century BC. However, it could also be a genuine Greek name, since it was the name of the father of the Athenian historian Thucydides (5th century BC). According to Thucydides, his father was from the Athenian deme of Halimous.
