Latinized form of Greek Οἰκλῆς (Oiklês) or Οἰκλείης (Oikleiês), derived from ὄις (ois) meaning "sheep" (cf. Latin ovis, the possible source of Ovid) and κλέος (kleos) meaning "glory". In Greek mythology this name belonged to the father of Amphiaraus.
