This is actually a unisex name in French, even though the name is most commonly found on females. In the case of male bearers, Odile is the French form of Odilo. An example of a male bearer is the Belgian road racing cyclist Odiel Defraeye (1888-1965), who was often known as Odile Defraye.
The name was used in the ballet "Swan Lake" by Tchaikovsky. She played as the secondary antagonist, who is disguised as Odette in the third act to seduce the prince.
