Meaning & History
From the English word oasis referring to a cultivated area (often a date palm grove) in a desert or semi-desert environment. An oasis can also provide habitat for animals and spontaneous plants. This is a modern name in the United States, first recorded by the Social Security Administration in 1995 (perhaps influenced by the English rock band by this name, which was active from 1991 until 2009).
