From Egyptian ḥr-nj possibly meaning "belonging to Horus", from Egyptian God Horus combined with Egyptian nj "of, belonging to". It could also mean "hunter of Horus", from Egyptian nw "to hunt". This was the name of a possible pharaoh from the Predynastic Period and some scholars believe this serekh is simply a crude attempt at writing the name Narmer.
