So, this name had to have been actually somewhat popular at one point, I doubt Shaggy’s parents just picked Norville out of the blue. Perhaps he was named after a great-grandfather or something, which would date it to the turn of the century where we do see names like Orville (as in the Wright brother), so perhaps there was a small Norville boom at that time as well. I’m definitely overthinking this, but I just think it’s fascinating how the creators of Scooby-Doo decided on this name. Anyways, I love it, it’s dated but charmingly so.
