Meaning & History
Derived from the Lithuanian noun noras meaning "wish, desire", which is ultimately derived from the Lithuanian verb norėti meaning "to wish, to want, to desire".This name is also frequently encountered as a short form of masculine compound names that start with Nor- (such as Nortautas and Norvydas) or end in -noras, such as Dainoras. Such names usually contain the aforementioned Lithuanian element, but not always, as is the case with e.g. Norbertas (which is of Germanic origin).
