The wording of this entry kind of implies that Nicolet is a native Dutch name, which it is not. It is simply a simplified spelling of the French name Nicolette. A more phonetical spelling too, as there are Dutch people out there (especially in the north of the Netherlands) that will pronounce Nicolette as nee-ko-LEHT-tə. As such, spelling the name as Nicolet instead ensures that the name is always pronounced in the French way: nee-ko-LEHT.
