I'm very surprised no one has commented on how the name Nick has now come to be associated with the kids/teen cable tv station Nickelodeon as Nick is the shorthand form of that name.
This is my brother's nickname, and his name is Nicholas. EVERY MAN ON HALMARK CHANNEL HAS DARK HAIR, AND THEIR CHARACTER IS NAMED NICK. (eyeroll) My brother also has those traits. As a name, I'm bittersweet. I like it a lot actually, and it's very nice.

Very vanilla. Too common. Nicholas is better but I just can’t see a grown man using it instead of Nick. All Nicks I’ve known are actually Nicholas but go by Nick.

I’ve always have disliked the name Nick and especially Nicky, mainly because they take out the beauty of Nicholas, and that’s not even a decent name. I personally like the meaning, however if I were to choose based off of meanings, I would stick to the feminine Nicole for a girl because it has such a better pronunciation without being a mouthful like Nicholas that can stand on its own without a nickname. Overall, I just wouldn’t name my kid this, Nick or Nicholas.
There are too many Nicks in this world. It's not a very satisfying pronunciation. It feels like it should be longer. Once you stop and think about the name, it just sounds so weird. Like... Nick?
This name derives from the Greek name ΝΙΚΟΛΑΟΣ Nick > Nikola > Nikolaos The Greek name itself derives from the Greek components: ΝΙΚΗ-ΛΑΟΣ = victory of people.
Nicholas Edward "Nick" Cave, the Australian musician, songwriter, author, screenwriter, and occasional film actor. Best known as the frontman of Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds.
This name sounds gentle, strong, and handsome. Because of the various meanings it could take as a word, I would never use this as a given name, but I love it as a nickname.
One of my favorite names. I love the full name of Nicholas, which is strong but gentle, and Nick is a nickname (haha) that is suitable for all ages. I would call my child both Nicholas and Nick, no problem.
For any and all Maximum Ride fans out there, you may remember in 'School's Out - Forever', when Fang starts going by Nick, because Max was hiding his 'real' name. He also goes by Fnick, because Max occasionally forgets and switches halfway through 'Fang' to 'Nick'. Resulting in 'Fnick'.
I don't think anyone has mentioned Nick Chopper yet. That's what the Tin Woodman's name was before he was tin. Sometimes his first name was listed as Nicholas, but L. Frank Baum made it Niccolo once, I believe.

I have always loved this name, and Nicholas too. I think Nick is hot and sexy, but Nicholas is sweet and romantic! Everything about this name and its longer form is perfect!

Sounds like someone arrogant but hot. I don't really like "Nicholas," though, because I knew this really annoying kid with that name.
Some people use the phrase "in the nick of time." I don't know what "nick" is supposed to mean in this case.

I think that came from a nick as in "I nicked myself shaving" being a slight cut when something passes a hair too close to the skin. "In the nick of time" may mean "very, very close, timing-wise" in this vein of thought.

I love the name Nick on its own. I'm not really a fan of Nicholas.
