I find it interesting that this is listed as the more common version of the Nicholas feminine forms in England yet when you look at the top 100 names in the UK for the last 120 years, Nicola is actually more common.

Nichola McAuliffe is an English television and stage actress and writer, best known for her role as Sheila Sabatini in the ITV hospital sitcom Surgical Spirit (1989–1995). She has also starred in several stage musicals and won the 1988 Olivier Award for Best Actress in a Musical for her role in Kiss Me, Kate.
As someone called Nichola below the age of 20, I would say that I completely hate the name! Everyone I know thinks it's cringe and it's just spelt weird to make it worse and would change my name if I could. I advise not burdening a child with my name.

I prefer Nichola to Nicola/Nicole. The "h" makes it look more Italian.
