My name, and it IS pronounced Nee-a. I speak Welsh and know two other Nias, have heard of many (it's popular in Welsh mythology, see Nia Ben Aur), and have a friend whose middle name is that. It's really popular where I live! There are other names pronounced Nye-a, but this is not one of them.

Nia should be pronounced "NEE-ah", not "NYE-a". "NYE-a" is the pronunciation of a completly different name spelt Naya that has some other meaning.

Most people do here in Wales (I have not met some who pronouns it 'Nye-uh').
