Meaning & History
A character in the works of JRR Tolkien. The name is derived from the fictional Sindarin language, and is of uncertain etymology. The first element of the word is likely the Noldorin word nel meaning "three, tri-", the Sindarin word neldor meaning "beech" or the Sindarin root word nyel meaning "song, sweet sound". The second element may be the Sindarin word lass meaning "leaf" or the Sindarin word glas meaning "joy".
