I'm honestly not a huge fan, and I prefer Nadia.
I’m starting to really like this name. It’s very sophisticated and elegant.
Just thought I would stop by to say, that as a 19 yr old, when I had my first child, I chose the Chuck Berry way of pronouncing Nadine. That is what I liked.
My daughter and I laugh at the usual turning around of our pronunciation, to the French pronunciation, or some other different nuance, to the one introduced. That's fine, we can take it in our stride.
Nevertheless, in this modern day and age, and with our Christian beliefs, I am happy to find that the Biblical meaning of Nadine is Showerer of blessings, Hope.
We know that Arabia and thereabouts were the regions first written about in the Bible, so I can cope with it being 'of ancient Arabic origins', and I'll leave it there.
I think the name Nadine is a really pretty name. It’s definitely a favorite of mine.
The name that always gets mixed up with Natalie.
Nadia is much much better. Either stick with Nadia or go with Natalie.
I love the name Nadine, I always have. I pronounce this name as "Nay-deen". Another name I like is Nadina "Nay-Deen-nuh".
I prefer Nadia.
My name is Nadine and I'm from Ireland, all of my teachers have always pronounced my name wrong. I pronounce it Nay-deen and they say Ne-deen or Nad-een and I think it's because of the Northern Irish actress Nadine Coyle, who pronounces her name as Ne-deen. It really annoys me and no matter how many times I correct them, they still get it wrong. So now I have three names Nay-deen, Na-deen and Ne-deen. I don't really have any nicknames but my trainers call me Ned or Nad and I HATE it. My family just calls me by my name, but I like nicknames like Nadz (naydz) or Deanie or Nad (nayd).
My name is Nadine and I love my name! I like that no one I know has my name. I find that people generally respond well when I tell them my name but I pronounce it as Nuh-deen, I've never liked Nay-deen. I was the only Nadine in my secondary school in England but in primary school there was a Nadine who pronounced her name as Nay-deen. She was a trouble maker and one day she got told off by the dinner lady for breaking something but because she told her that her name was Nuh-deen, I was the one who got in trouble! I'm surprised no one has mentioned the nickname Nadz? I get called that all the time by my family and friends and when I play basketball, they think it's funny to shout Go Nadz! I also get called Nadi, Nadders, Deany, and D. I don't mind any of these nicknames, I think they're sweet.
Nadine just doen't sound pretty to me at all with the English pronunciation. The French way (like many names) sounds much better, although it's still not a name that I would choose for my child.
Nadine is a nice name and I prefer it to Nadia. This name sounds strong, feminine, and mature. It ages very well. I'd pronounce it "nuh-deen".
I love this name so much, honestly like it more than Nadia.
Beautiful name!
I think this name is odious. When pronounced, “NAY-deen” it’s very heavy on the tongue. It makes me think of an old, fat country woman who’s always dirty. I once saw a pig on TV named Nadine, so that’s probably why. Nadia is 200% better. (No offense if this is your name.)
My name is Nadine. I can see that I am not the only one who has had issues with people pronouncing my name incorrectly. I say Nahdeen to them and they reply to me as Naydeen. It happens all the time, I have stopped correcting folks and I sometimes just say Naydeen to introduce myself, cause I know they'll change it anyways. Anyways I love my name, it's not common and finding magnets with my name is impossible. My mom got my name from a British soap opera. Nadine 1973.
Hello I am Nadine from Holland and I am 45 years old. Well I never liked my name and the last 5 years I tolerate it and am glad it is not a really common name. You pronounce it at the French way: Nah-dean. But in Holland people pronounce it as you write it as Na-di-ne, really awful it sounds. I have to tell people how you pronounces my name on nearly daily or weekly basis and everywhere I am new I have to remind others how you pronounce it.
It sounds a little pinched at the end — I prefer “Nadia” by far. However, I could see Nadine as a middle name. (Charlotte Nadine, Sylvie Nadine...)
My name is Nadine Muzio. Growing up I did not like my name because not only could people not pronounce my first name but my last name was just as difficult. My mom gets mad because she wants everyone to pronounce it Nuh-deen but I tell everyone its Nay-deen because I talk fast so Nuy-deen sounds like "nothing" or "nut-ting" especially over the phone. I've never really had that one nickname that everyone knows me as but my uncle has always called me "Dean-Witter" and a few people have called me Nay, Dean and Dean-O. Now I am 38 and as I've gotten older I've really come to enjoy my name... except when it comes to finding ANYTHING with my name on it. I gave up on that, I don't even look anymore, lol. It could have been WAY WAY worse... I was almost a "Stormy."... THANK GOD FOR NADINE! Lol.
My name is Nadine! I prounounce it nay-deen. I’ve gotten over the fact that people will pronounce it wrong, so once I tell them my name, however they say it back to me I just agree :) haha. My nicknames growing up were Nay, Naynay, Naners & Nade in school. My siblings call me Deeny or Dieno, which I like the most. I really enjoy that it’s not a common name, but is frustrating when you can’t find it on a magnet! Haha, but overall people are usually intrigued when I present my name and I like the compliments. Although, speaking to older people, they have a very hard time understanding what my name is. They think I’m saying Katie, I don't know. At places you have to give a name, I tend to give the friend I’m with’s name but if I must use my own, I say it loud and clear- Nay-Deen, or I straight up spell it for them. Overall it’s a pretty cool name and is fun when you learn of others who have the same name :)
I love this name so much that I gave it to one of my daughters. I gave it a Hispanic twist and spelled it NEYDIN. You read it phonetically in Spanish (Nay-Deen).
My name is Nadine, I'm from the UK and here it's pronounced "Nuh-Deen". I never liked my name growing up and as someone who is now in their 30s I still don't like it. As a Christian I realized God inspired my estranged biological father to name me, the name means "hope", but to be honest I still do not like my name, I don't like the sound of it. The "Deen" part is what I dislike, I also dislike the male name "Dean" and the name "Nadine" sounds a lot like that.
My name is Nadine (Nay-Deen). My father named me after a Racehorse of the same name in 1966. My nickname is Nay. Since joining Facebook I have met so many other people named Nadine which is nice as I was always the only Nadine in school or work!
This is my name! It also means 'brave as a bear' which I really like. Also a nickname could be "Dene" which sounds kind of tomboyish to me.
Sounds masculine to me when said as "Nuh-deen". It makes me picture an Arabic boy or a man or an Indian Boy or man. I know that may be strange but it's just what I picture.
I really like this uncommon name, and pronounce it "Nay-deen." My only association with it is the "Hey Arnold!" character. It sounds classy, sophisticated, and refined, yet "cool" at the same time. (And that character is something of a tomboy, so...^^)
This is my name and we pronounce it Nahdeen in my family. Love my name because it's not popular. Gave it to my daughter Charlotte (which was another unused name 20 years ago when we gave it to her... this all changed last week!) as her middle name.
I encountered the name Nadine on a television show quite a while back, and while I initially thought it was interesting, the amount of times I heard it said quickly caused it to grow annoying. The sound (Nay-DEEN) became grating and irritating.
I think this is one of many girl names that is quite unappreciated in America today. I love it; very cute and mature sounding at the same time (if that makes any sense! Hahaha) It doesn't have any nicknames (at least, that I know of), so I could see a child disliking it growing up, but with time, I think anyone could come to like it. It sounds very sophisticated and feminine, without being annoyingly frilly or soft. Great name!
One of teachers puts too much emphasis on the 'd'. It sounds like NaDDeen. I hate it!
I'm an aspiring writer, and the heroine of my first novel is called Nadine. She is a very kind, sensitive, intelligent, caring character. Now whenever I hear the name, I imagine a really nice person like that. Even though a famous pop star has this name, it doesn't seem to have become that common. I hope to use this name for my own daughter one day, if I ever have one.
I really, really like the name Nadine. I associate it with a lot of things. Yes, it's old-fashioned, but that seems to be the sort of thing I'm into. Nadine is such a pretty name. It reminds me of the character Naminé from Kingdom Hearts. It's a very nice name!
I love this name, and while I love all the pronunciations it has, my favorite is "nay-DEEN." That's probably just because that was the first way I'd ever heard the name pronounced.
My name's Nadine and I think it's a great name. It's not that popular. I am the only girl in my school with this name. I hate it when my teacher calls me nay-deen. It's so annoying.
I love my name and the fact that so few people have the same name. The only downside is that no one knows how to pronounce it! While I don't like Nay-deen, Nar-deen is even worse.
As it's a French name, I'm going to take the word of a French lady named Nadine who told me my Aussie accent was butchering my name (I tend to say Ni-deen, apparently). She told my quite authoritively that it is pronounced Nah-deen, with the Nah quite soft and emphasis on deen.
My name is Nadine Jordan I think it is a really nice name. Most people call me Nay-deen because they cannot say it right.
Nadine is a beautiful name. I do recommened this name to anybody who likes Nadya.
This is my mother's name and she pronounces it Nay-deen. I like it pronounced Nah-deen better.
My name is Nadine and I feel it is a very independant name. I love my name and feel it is a lovely girls name.
I think it's very old fashioned.
I think this would make a good middle name. I like it, it's very beautiful.
I have always liked this name. The meaning is very nice. It would also make a good middle name.
I don't like Nadine, it sounds too heavy and it's hard to say because of the 2 n's.
