In the Dutch-speaking world, there are two pronunciations for Nadine; which one you hear, largely depends on the preference of the parents of the bearer, as they decided how the name of their daughter ought to be pronounced. The pronunciations in question are:• /na:.'din/ (based on the French pronunciation) • /na:.'di.nə/ (fully Dutch, i.e. no foreign influence that I know of) [noted -ed]You can hear them for yourself below:• https://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/Nadine#Dutch (in English) • https://nl.wiktionary.org/wiki/Nadine (in Dutch) • https://nl.forvo.com/search/Nadine/nl/ (in Dutch) • https://youtu.be/RteR4c5vV_I (in Dutch; the name is said at 0:12 and 1:16 and 2:00 → this is the Dutch pronunciation) • https://youtu.be/NcgkKRhEiUc (in Dutch; the name is said at 0:15 and 0:43 → this is the French-based pronunciation)
For everyone saying they don't like the English pronunciation or that the French name is the "original"; this name is a variant of a variant of a variant of a different pronunciation of a Russian and Bulgarian name. You can literally go through like 4 pages to find this out.

Nadine (Nay-DEEN) Franklin was the main character of the 2016 movie “The Edge of Seventeen”, portrayed by Hailee Steinfeld.I like it!
Just thought I would stop by to say, that as a 19 yr old, when I had my first child, I chose the Chuck Berry way of pronouncing Nadine. That is what I liked. My daughter and I laugh at the usual turning around of our pronunciation, to the French pronunciation, or some other different nuance, to the one introduced. That's fine, we can take it in our stride. Nevertheless, in this modern day and age, and with our Christian beliefs, I am happy to find that the Biblical meaning of Nadine is Showerer of blessings, Hope. We know that Arabia and thereabouts were the regions first written about in the Bible, so I can cope with it being 'of ancient Arabic origins', and I'll leave it there.
Many of the German pronunciations on this site are incorrect.Yes, traditionally in German final Es would get pronounced. But this is not the case with foreign names. We pronounce Nadine the French way, nah-DEEN. The final E is silent. [noted -ed]

Nadine Lustre is a Filipino actress and singer. She rose to fame after playing the lead role of Eya Rodriguez in the film Diary ng Panget (2014). Lustre has since starred in the television series On the Wings of Love (2015) and the films Never Not Love You (2018), Ulan (2019), and Indak (2019).
My name is Nadine and I'm from Ireland, all of my teachers have always pronounced my name wrong. I pronounce it Nay-deen and they say Ne-deen or Nad-een and I think it's because of the Northern Irish actress Nadine Coyle, who pronounces her name as Ne-deen. It really annoys me and no matter how many times I correct them, they still get it wrong. So now I have three names Nay-deen, Na-deen and Ne-deen. I don't really have any nicknames but my trainers call me Ned or Nad and I HATE it. My family just calls me by my name, but I like nicknames like Nadz (naydz) or Deanie or Nad (nayd).
My name is Nadine and I love my name! I like that no one I know has my name. I find that people generally respond well when I tell them my name but I pronounce it as Nuh-deen, I've never liked Nay-deen. I was the only Nadine in my secondary school in England but in primary school there was a Nadine who pronounced her name as Nay-deen. She was a trouble maker and one day she got told off by the dinner lady for breaking something but because she told her that her name was Nuh-deen, I was the one who got in trouble! I'm surprised no one has mentioned the nickname Nadz? I get called that all the time by my family and friends and when I play basketball, they think it's funny to shout Go Nadz! I also get called Nadi, Nadders, Deany, and D. I don't mind any of these nicknames, I think they're sweet.

Nadine just doen't sound pretty to me at all with the English pronunciation. The French way (like many names) sounds much better, although it's still not a name that I would choose for my child.
It's my middle name. My family and I have always pronounced it Nad-een. Only recently heard it pronounced differently and it weirded me out quiet honestly.

My name is Nadine, and I am not sure where my parents got my name. We are Hungarian and I traced my mother's side to the 1650s, my dad's side to the 1850s. I pronounce my name nay-deen, but my grandmother pronounced it nuh-deen. The name Nadine is now more popular than when I was born (1939).
Alanis Morissette's middle name is actually Nadine.

I think this name is odious. When pronounced, “NAY-deen” it’s very heavy on the tongue. It makes me think of an old, fat country woman who’s always dirty. I once saw a pig on TV named Nadine, so that’s probably why. Nadia is 200% better. (No offense if this is your name.)

My name is Nadine. I can see that I am not the only one who has had issues with people pronouncing my name incorrectly. I say Nahdeen to them and they reply to me as Naydeen. It happens all the time, I have stopped correcting folks and I sometimes just say Naydeen to introduce myself, cause I know they'll change it anyways. Anyways I love my name, it's not common and finding magnets with my name is impossible. My mom got my name from a British soap opera. Nadine 1973.
Hello I am Nadine from Holland and I am 45 years old. Well I never liked my name and the last 5 years I tolerate it and am glad it is not a really common name. You pronounce it at the French way: Nah-dean. But in Holland people pronounce it as you write it as Na-di-ne, really awful it sounds. I have to tell people how you pronounces my name on nearly daily or weekly basis and everywhere I am new I have to remind others how you pronounce it.
It sounds a little pinched at the end — I prefer “Nadia” by far. However, I could see Nadine as a middle name. (Charlotte Nadine, Sylvie Nadine...)

My name is Nadine Muzio. Growing up I did not like my name because not only could people not pronounce my first name but my last name was just as difficult. My mom gets mad because she wants everyone to pronounce it Nuh-deen but I tell everyone its Nay-deen because I talk fast so Nuy-deen sounds like "nothing" or "nut-ting" especially over the phone. I've never really had that one nickname that everyone knows me as but my uncle has always called me "Dean-Witter" and a few people have called me Nay, Dean and Dean-O. Now I am 38 and as I've gotten older I've really come to enjoy my name... except when it comes to finding ANYTHING with my name on it. I gave up on that, I don't even look anymore, lol. It could have been WAY WAY worse... I was almost a "Stormy."... THANK GOD FOR NADINE! Lol.
My name is Nadine - surprise! When I was born, it was a traumatic birth and my mother had been having a difficult time within her marriage to my father; both my mother and I came close to dying. I believe that had a lot to do with why she gave me this name. She told me when I was little what it meant (Hope). My immediate family always pronounced my name Nay-DEEN but my great auntie felt it sounded more refined as Nuh-DEEN and would never say it any other way. My childhood friends call me Dean or "dean a bean" (my mother's maiden name was Bean) and my grandkids call me Grandma Dean Dean. When I lived in Mexico for a time, they had trouble with the English pronunciation of my name so I said it Naw-DEEN-ay and that made it easier. People that I've been newly introduced to often call me other 'N' names, mostly these three - Naomi, Natalie and Nadia. I don't care how people pronounce my name, it's their interpretation and I find it interesting when I hear it said differently.

My name is Nadine! I prounounce it nay-deen. I’ve gotten over the fact that people will pronounce it wrong, so once I tell them my name, however they say it back to me I just agree :) haha. My nicknames growing up were Nay, Naynay, Naners & Nade in school. My siblings call me Deeny or Dieno, which I like the most. I really enjoy that it’s not a common name, but is frustrating when you can’t find it on a magnet! Haha, but overall people are usually intrigued when I present my name and I like the compliments. Although, speaking to older people, they have a very hard time understanding what my name is. They think I’m saying Katie, I don't know. At places you have to give a name, I tend to give the friend I’m with’s name but if I must use my own, I say it loud and clear- Nay-Deen, or I straight up spell it for them. Overall it’s a pretty cool name and is fun when you learn of others who have the same name :)
I love this name so much that I gave it to one of my daughters. I gave it a Hispanic twist and spelled it NEYDIN. You read it phonetically in Spanish (Nay-Deen).
For me, my name is pronounced NAY-DEEN but that's only because I'm from the south, haha!

My name is Nadine, I'm from the UK and here it's pronounced "Nuh-Deen". I never liked my name growing up and as someone who is now in their 30s I still don't like it. As a Christian I realized God inspired my estranged biological father to name me, the name means "hope", but to be honest I still do not like my name, I don't like the sound of it. The "Deen" part is what I dislike, I also dislike the male name "Dean" and the name "Nadine" sounds a lot like that.
I don't mind my name as it is still unusual and no-one was called this at school or my workplaces apart from me. I have only ever known about 3 other people with this name. Mine is pronounced Nay deen and I really hate being called Nah deen but I get called that most of the time.

Nadine Renee was an American singer and dance musician. In 1995 her single Say You'll Stay was popular in the Miami and Los Angeles radio circuits. In 1996, Samir teamed up with Miami DJ George Acosta under the moniker Planet Soul. Their single, Set U Free went all the way to #26 on Billboard's top 40 chart, crossed over to the R&B charts, and went on to become an international hit.
My name is Nadine (Nay-Deen). My father named me after a Racehorse of the same name in 1966. My nickname is Nay. Since joining Facebook I have met so many other people named Nadine which is nice as I was always the only Nadine in school or work!
My name is Nadine... I have several nicknames from Adean, Deener, Na, Na Na and Nader just to mane a few... I love my name because it's not that common...
Sounds masculine to me when said as "Nuh-deen". It makes me picture an Arabic boy or a man or an Indian Boy or man. I know that may be strange but it's just what I picture.

The name Nadine was given to 162 girls born in the US in 2015.
I have researched my given name Nadine for many, many years and have come to learn and understand the following. It is an ancient Arabic origin name adopted by the Russian, French, German, English countries as well as some of the Latin speaking countries. Nadine is a popular Muslim girl or boy name. Many names have derived from the name Nadine such as Nadia, Natalie, Nadeem, Nader, Nadeeda, Nadish, Nadi and so on. The correct pronunciation is Nuh-deen and NOT Naydeen as many Americans would have it and to which I cringe when I hear them pronouncing it.Name Nadine In Arabic : نادين "Admonitory/Messenger," "Showerer of blessings." Name Nadine In Bangla : নাদিনে Name Nadine In Urdu : نادینے Name Nadine In Hindi : नदिने Nadine in Chinese : 纳迪娜 Nadine in Hieroglyphics: (unable to add the images here. I tried, sorry) Nadine(French and Slavic) - "giving a hope" "hopeful" Nadina (old German) - bear's brave Nadine (Persian) - "unique, unusual"I hope this is helpful to all you "Nadine's" out there and for the parents who wish to use that name for their new born child.
I really like this uncommon name, and pronounce it "Nay-deen." My only association with it is the "Hey Arnold!" character. It sounds classy, sophisticated, and refined, yet "cool" at the same time. (And that character is something of a tomboy, so...^^)
This is my name and we pronounce it Nahdeen in my family. Love my name because it's not popular. Gave it to my daughter Charlotte (which was another unused name 20 years ago when we gave it to her... this all changed last week!) as her middle name.
Nadine is a character in the show Twin Peaks. She is arguably the most tragic character in the show; her husband never loved her and accidentally shot out her eye. Midway through the series she attempts suicide and wakes up from her coma believing she is 18 years old. She then begins to attend high school and joins the wrestling team.
This is a beautiful name. The "na-DEEN" is the proper French pronunciation and of course, sounds way better than "NAY-deen".

I encountered the name Nadine on a television show quite a while back, and while I initially thought it was interesting, the amount of times I heard it said quickly caused it to grow annoying. The sound (Nay-DEEN) became grating and irritating.
I think this is one of many girl names that is quite unappreciated in America today. I love it; very cute and mature sounding at the same time (if that makes any sense! Hahaha) It doesn't have any nicknames (at least, that I know of), so I could see a child disliking it growing up, but with time, I think anyone could come to like it. It sounds very sophisticated and feminine, without being annoyingly frilly or soft. Great name!
Hello :) I am Nadine. I am from England, and I pronounce my name Naydeen. I had to respond to the user who said they don't know of any nicknames for the name. My nickname has been Nade ever since I can remember!
Although na-DEEN is the French pronunciation, Nadine is also used in the English-speaking world. The alternate English pronunciation is nay-DEEN.

It's my understanding that the name also has an Irish derivation with the pronunciation being NAYdeen. After 40 years of answering to that, I hope it's right!

One of teachers puts too much emphasis on the 'd'. It sounds like NaDDeen. I hate it!
Nadine is the name of a character on the Nickelodeon cartoon "Hey Arnold!" Although a minor character, Nadine's primary personality trait is an interest in insects and spiders. She has dark brown skin and blonde hair styled in pigtails to look like spider's legs.
I'm an aspiring writer, and the heroine of my first novel is called Nadine. She is a very kind, sensitive, intelligent, caring character. Now whenever I hear the name, I imagine a really nice person like that. Even though a famous pop star has this name, it doesn't seem to have become that common. I hope to use this name for my own daughter one day, if I ever have one.
I really, really like the name Nadine. I associate it with a lot of things. Yes, it's old-fashioned, but that seems to be the sort of thing I'm into. Nadine is such a pretty name. It reminds me of the character Naminé from Kingdom Hearts. It's a very nice name!
I love this name, and while I love all the pronunciations it has, my favorite is "nay-DEEN." That's probably just because that was the first way I'd ever heard the name pronounced.
My name's Nadine and I think it's a great name. It's not that popular. I am the only girl in my school with this name. I hate it when my teacher calls me nay-deen. It's so annoying.
This is the name of a lady I know, she pronounces it "nay-DEEN".

I love my name and the fact that so few people have the same name. The only downside is that no one knows how to pronounce it! While I don't like Nay-deen, Nar-deen is even worse. As it's a French name, I'm going to take the word of a French lady named Nadine who told me my Aussie accent was butchering my name (I tend to say Ni-deen, apparently). She told my quite authoritively that it is pronounced Nah-deen, with the Nah quite soft and emphasis on deen.
Nadine is the name of a character in Stephen King's The Stand. The character is a teacher who cares for a little boy she found wandering after a plague has wiped out most of the population. It turns out she is to be the virginal bride of Satan who is meant to have his child, but in a moment of rebellion, she throws herself over the bacony and ruins his plans. Her hair goes from black to white during the course of the book. I love this name -- not just because of the character :)
