Meaning & History
Derived from Latin monere, meaning "to advise, to warn". This is the name of the goddess of memory in Roman mythology, equated with her Greek counterpart Mnemosyne. The name also occurs as an epithet of Juno, although in her case the etymology is regarded to be derived from Greek μονήρης (monḗrēs), meaning "solitary, alone, unique". Both meanings were frequently conflated.
