Latinized form of the Greek name Μοιρώ (Moiro) which was derived from either the Greek noun μοῖρα (moira) meaning "part, portion" as well as "fate, lot, destiny" or the Greek verb μοιράω (moirao) meaning "to share, to divide, to distribute". This was the name of a poet of the late 3rd and early 4th centuries BC who was from the city of Byzantium. Her name could have been Myro.
